Dog Fattener Recipe.

We have had dogs, especially as they reach 4 to 6 months of age and are maturing, who needed to gain some extra weight. Here is a recipe that will put it on. The cereal in it adds vitamins and minerals so that it probably could be used as a complete food.

We have also discovered that this seems to be very helpful for a new mom that has just whelped and needs lots of calories to produce milk.

5 pounds cheap, fatty hamburger (STRESS the word "fatty." The fat is important in this use. We buy boxes of frozen patties at WalMart with the brand name of "Flanders," with lots of fat.)

1 cup peanut oil

3 packages Knox unflavored gelatin

2 cups wheat germ

1 box Total cereal (or equivalent. WalMart sells their generic cereal called "Enriched Bran Flakes" that has the same vitamin/mineral analysis as Total. That's what we use.)

Mix all ingredients (but don't cook). Roll into golf ball sized balls and flatten if desired. Freeze for storage.

Our dogs love these "meatballs" and thrive on them. We have always been able to put weight on a puppy with these.

We generally don't feed these as a complete diet, but supplement with them. Feed as much as you think your dog needs, or as much as he wants.
